Stars is a Juno Award nominated Canadian indie pop band whose music has been described as "beautiful, eloquent indie pop", characterized by lush instrumentation, nimble production and mixing, narrative lyrics, and soft but nuanced vocals. They have cited a wide variety of musical likes and influences ranging from Berlioz to Outkast, citing among others Syd Barrett, Paddy McAloon, New Order, The Smiths, Brian Wilson, Momus, and Broken Social Scene.
In-Flight Safety -
It doesnt hurt that the band has spent the last year performing alongside some of Canadas best independent artists. In-Flight Safety has toured with Stars, The Most Serene Repulic, and gigged with Broken Social Scene, Metric, Sam Roberts, The Constantines, Hawksley Workman, Joel Plaskett, and Matt Mays and are fast becoming one of Atlantic Canadas top draws.
The Yoko Casionos - At a time when the Vancouver scene is spurting out esoteric pop bands of every stripe, The Yoko Casionos appear as an anomaly: a straight forward pop-rock group with no pretense, an abundance of energy, and songs that would make sense on commercial radio, if commercial radio made sense.
Young Galaxy - Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCandless are Young Galaxy. They stem from island roots, from Canada’s Western frontier, that place of rising tides, beach side campfires and fogged-in cedars. But Young Galaxy isn’t the stuff of island gales and Okanogan laments. There’s another facet, a cool urbaneness, the measured cadence of a city strut. Years spent in the fertile cosmopolitanism of Montreal have made their mark.
C'mon - The name comes from a classic rock exclamation used by the likes of Eddie Cochrane, Cheap Trick and The Runaways among others, as a call to arms. C’mon align themselves with Rockers Against Technology, Trans Love Energies, hot nights in rock clubs the world over, the sweaty afterglow of congregation and all bands that carry the banner “beware the false rock”.
